Our petting farm experience is an experience like no other. You get to dive right into interacting with the animals as you will be greeted by our free range goats & sheep. The small herd roam freely in the barnyard enjoying naps in the sunshine and unlimited hay. You will also find our laying hens & ducks partaking in a similar activity as they are also free range. You will be able to pet, brush and feed the goats, chickens, pigs without barriers or fences between you! Grab a brush from the basket inside the barn and enjoy!
We often have many baby chicks to gently hold and cuddle. These chicks are usually hatched through our Incubator Rental program in classes across Simcoe County, giving children the opportunity to learn about the process. We hatch chickens well into summer to ensure a steady supply of farm fresh eggs for local families, as well as laying hens for families to enjoy at their own home. Chick hatching starts right around Easter and goes all summer long.
We can't forget to highlight our sweet bottle lambs - Rosie & Mango. They are very friendly and love a good scratch, Posie will be sure to check any bags you bring to the farm however she is picky on what she actually wishes to eat! Lois is our rescue lamb, she is brown and smaller than the other two. She is terrified of people and has not gotten any friendlier since being rescued! However she is safe here. She is also visually impaired which adds to her anxiety. You can look but cannot touch her!
Next up you will visit the horses and mini ponies surrounding the barnyard! Living with two of our equine friends are two cows, Butterscotch and Chase!
Butterscotch is a full sized Angus cow and Chase is a mini jersey cow, both super friendly and looking forward to any apple slices or lettuce you bring! Look out for their big, stinky, rough tongues - they love to give kisses! We have recently added our Alpaca pair, Onyx & Dodger to this field as well! Although they don't love to be pet you may offer them some pellets, just ask Farmer Christie!
We are home to FOUR Holland Lop bunnies, Ginger, Willow, Bindy & Clover! The furry little colony live in an outdoor enclosure and enjoy gentle pets through the fencing as well as snacks like lettuce, strawberries, carrots and celery! Depending on crowd size and energy level, you may be permitted inside the pen to pet the bunnies however we can't guarantee they will be willing to interact.
The horses may only eat carrots or apples, they have a sensitive stomach so we appreciate your cooperation with this!
You may collect your table scraps such as melon peels, apple cores, carrot tops/peels, strawberry tops or mushy berries for the animals as well. The pigs and chickens will sift through and eat what they love!
Please do not bring meat, bones, corn on the cob, seeds or bread.
Farmer Christie has owned horses since 1999! In fact, we still own Snickers who was one of two horses we originally bought. When we moved to this location in 2013 Christie decided to expand her collection of barnyard pets. Starting with pigs and chickens then slowly adding goats, cows and sheep!
A nurse by profession but a farmer at heart.
At Hooves & Feathers, our mission is to provide a sanctuary style home for livestock and animals. We do not use any of our animals for consumption, breed for the purpose of consumption or sell for the purpose of consumption. All of our animals are family members to us and are treated with the utmost respect and love.
Our team at Hooves & Feathers is made up of Farmer Christie & Farmer John, high school sweethearts with two kids. Christie had her work cut out for her in converting John into an animal lover but if you ask him now he loves his cows and lambs! John has his own construction company operating a motor grader and building roads, he operates
